ETSEIB 175 YEARS

A story of impact and transformation

Virtual exhibition

175 years awakening the ingenuity that makes the world move

The year 2026 marks an exceptional milestone for the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering (ETSEIB), which celebrates 175 years of history and uninterrupted operation. Since its foundation in 1851, the School has acted as a true transformative agent, assuming an essential role in the technological, industrial, economic and cultural development of Catalonia, and contributing decisively to its modernisation and the progress of its whole society.

This exhibition was born with an eminently disseminative intention, aimed at the general public, to travel together through this long journey. The goal is not to offer a simple chronological collection of dates, but to highlight the immense contribution of the School to the productive fabric, the environment, science and people, from the dawn of industrialisation to contemporary technological challenges.

Over almost two centuries, our primary mission has always been the same: to train professionals with an excellent and very solid scientific and technical base. Today, however, excellence requires a much more transversal view. Our graduates are called upon to respond to colossal global challenges, such as the climate emergency, mobility, people’s health or the depletion of resources.

We have learned that technology and innovation only acquire their full meaning when they are unconditionally put at the service of people and our planet. That is why we defend that rigor must always be accompanied by a deep conscience. We want the decisions of those who will occupy positions of responsibility to be strongly influenced by the principles of sustainability, equality, social commitment and peace, which constitute the true essence and values of the School. To a large extent, the way they do things will depend on whether the world is a better place to live.

This exhibition is a sincere tribute to all generations of students, teachers and staff members who, with their inexhaustible effort, have forged the prestige of a School that today proudly displays its own DNA within the great family of the UPC. We reaffirm our vocation for public service and, honoring and celebrating our history, we remain committed to the future to continue putting engineering, talent and knowledge at the service of collective progress.
